Here’s a speedy version of that perennial family favourite – baked beans. The real deal involves hours of slow-paced cooking so we’ve removed the hassle, losing none of the fabulous, smoky flavour along the way. These beans are so delicious you’ll almost forget the juicy pork steak and crunchy, healthy greens that get served alongside. Almost…but not quite.

1. Prepare vegetables

Read through the recipe. Finely chop the onion. Crush or finely chop the garlic. Peel the carrot and finely chop. Drain and rinse the cannellini beans.
2. Cook vegetables

Heat 1 tbs olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook the onion, carrot and garlic, covered and stirring occasionally, for 5 mins or until softened. Stir in the BBQ seasoning and cook, uncovered, for 1 min or until fragrant.
3. Cook cannellini beans

Stir in the cannellini beans, diced tomatoes, 2 tsp Dijon mustard and 80ml (⅓ cup) water, then season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer then reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 8-10 mins until slightly thickened.
4. Prepare greens

Meanwhile, bring a medium saucepan of salted water to the boil. Trim the beans then halve. Cut the zucchini into thick batons. Set aside.
5. Cook pork

Drizzle the pork steaks with 2 tsp olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Heat a medium frypan over medium-high heat. Cook the pork for 3-4 mins each side until golden and cooked through (see cooking tip). Remove from the pan and rest for 4 mins.
6. Get ready to serve

While the pork rests, cook the beans in the boiling water for 2 mins, add the zucchini and cook for a further 2 mins or until the vegetables are just tender. Drain and season with salt and pepper. Divide the braised beans, greens and steaks among plates, then drizzle with any resting juices to serve.
